Prominent Egyptian comedian-actor Adel Imam and scenarist Yousif Maati have been accused of stealing the story of the “Arees Min Jiha Amnia”, which is Adel’s latest movie, from writer Mohammad Othman Al Najm. Othman revealed that he had written the story over five years ago, but under the title “Ajiz” (Hopeless).
According to the Al Watan daily, Othman stressed that he was shocked to see his story turned into a movie starring Adel and more surprised to learn that credits for its writing were given to Yousif. Othman added that the odd thing of the matter was that he had registered his story in the year 2000 in order to protect his rights and paid all the due bills, but the Egyptian Censorship Committee had refused his story to be turned into a movie at the time.
Otham stressed that he will file a lawsuit against Yousif and Adel for stealing his story saying that its clearly corruption. He added that he is disappointed at the censorship for refusing his story and agreeing to the stolen version of Yousif. Othman added that
The premiere screening of the movie took place at the Metro cinema in down town Cairo. Adel Imam and the cast attended the premiere show in addition to many critics and journalists.
Imam's movie has been referred to as one of the best in so many years according to critics. Despite some weakness in the script, critics still consider the new movie the best one by Adel in the past five years.
The movie had more depth to the surrounding personalities around Adel the thing that happened for the first time. Adel used to be the ultimate star of his movies without any concentration on other actors. This movie came different because it gave more room for the second leading actor Sherif Munir to show his talent which is marked as a new era of Adel's career.
Critics say that the story of the movie is very similar to the American movie “Meet the parents” starring Robert Dinero. The story of the movie revolves around a very possessive parent who loves his daughter very much and tries to put away all the guys who she meets. Until a really good one gets to know her, and the father could not do anything to him because he has a very sensitive job but still the father tries and succeeds in transferring him to a remote area.
The relationship between the father and his son in law turns from bad to worse until the newly wedded couples have their first baby. The grandfather, Adel Imam, gets crazy about he new comer and starts to take over his life also.
