Prominent Egyptian comedian actor Adel Imam celebrated his sixty-third birthday in the streets of Cairo, while shooting the outdoor scenes for his upcoming film “Safara Fil Amarah” (An Embassy in the Building). Adel revealed that he is not a big fan of big celebrations and was pleased to spend his birthday with the cast of film.
Adel will complete shooting the final scenes in June for “Safara fil Binaya,” is his 119th film, to have it ready for screening in July. At a press conference, Adel clarified details regarding the nature of the film that tackles a very sensitive political issue; the normalization of relations with Israel.
The film revolves around an Egyptian petrol engineer, who has lived in Dubai for a quarter of a century and finally returns home to Egypt to discover that the Israeli Embassy is located right next door to his apartment. The film will for the first time present a character that plays the role of the Israeli ambassador.
Adel elucidated that the film aims at answering one basic question, which is why Egyptians refused normalization until now. The film also sends a message to Israel, and to other countries with which Egypt has signed a peace agreement, to help them understand the point of view of ordinary citizens. The film’s message is that art plays the most important and influential role in reflecting the will and the feelings of the people. Although, Adel stressed that the film is a comedy and not a political drama.
Adel plays a humorous character that tries desperately to stay away from politics, but to his disappointment finds himself engrossed in a major political affair.
The cast of the film, directed by Sharif Arafeh, resumed filming scenes at Al Ahram studios in Cairo after their return from Dubai, where most of the scenes were shot.
