After ‘Qasem Amin’: Kamal Abu Rayyah to Play Religious Leader
Egyptian director Ibrahim al Shuqunqeri has nominated actor Kamal Abu Rayyah, who has wrapped up shooting his role as Qasem Amin to play the role as imam Mohammed Abdo in the series that bears the name of this highly renowned Imam and explores his life history.
The series was scripted by Ayed al Ribat and costarring Riyadh al Khouli, Hasan Hosni, Madihah Hamdi and Muna Abdel Ghani.
“Abu Rayyah has not finally accepted the role and he requested some time to review the script although he was enthusiastic to play this role which he wants to add to his historical drama roles he played. These include Ahmed Rami in Umm Kulthoom series and Qasem Amin, which has not been aired yet. The two series were directed by Ena’am Mohammed Ali,” the director told the London-based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.
He added that Mohammed Abdo episodes start with his childhood which was synchronous with the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and his father’s suffering. His father Abdo Hasan Khairallah was jailed and his house burnt by the occupation forces.
The series also tackles Mohammed Abdo’s educational period and his efforts in developing a social revolution and rebellion against the old corrupted concepts.
The series involve many characters including Abdo’s students Saad Zaghlool, Mustafa Kamel and Mustafa Abdel Razzaq. The series also sheds light on Abdulla al Nadeem and his links with Mohammed Abdo
“Shooting of the series will start soon after the cast are tapped. A hefty budget of two million pounds has been allocated for shooting the episodes,” added the director -- Albawaba.com
