Aging Comedy Trio Beat the Clock in Neil Simon Adaptation
The head of the House of Theater Arts, Hani Mtawea’, has succeeded in recruiting the famous comedy trio, Fuad Al Muhandes, Shwikar and Abdel Menaem Madbuli, for the play Awlad Al Shams Al Mushriqa (The Sunshine Boys).
“The play, which is based on the American play The Sunshine Boys, by Neil Simon, will be given a local flavor for performances at the Theatre of the Public Sector,” Mtawea’ told the Arabic daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.
He added that the play was suitable for the ages of the three stars, as it tells the story of a famous duo of aging comedians, similar to Laurel and Hardy.
“Despite the passing years and the dwindling lights of fame, they still love comedy. And when an old female comedian joins them, they decide to challenge time and restore their past glory,” said the theater head.
A number of young actors will participate in the play, which is scheduled to run during the next summer season.
