The family of the late prominent Islamic cleric Mohammed Mitwalli Shaarawi showed some objections to the TV series script which tackles his life history, the London based Arabic daily Al Sharq Al Awsat said.
The Egyptian actor Hasan Yousef who will produce the series and take the leading role in it told the paper, “Shaarawi’s family demanded toning down the script which tells about the late cleric’s personal and family history and focusing on his national, Islamic and political stances. These include his controversial stances particularly towards the 1967 crisis.”
Yousef added that Bahaiddin has begun making the required amendments so that the episodes will be ready for shooting after the Fitr Eid in order to be aired during the forthcoming Ramadan.
“My success in playing Imam bin Magah being aired this Ramadan and the audience acclaim have tempted me to play Sheikh Shaarawi which I see richer from the drama point of view,” added Yousef.
The series entitled Al Imam Al Shaarawi consists of 30 episodes. The Egyptian renowned actor Ahmed Zaki was nominated to play the starring role in it but he requested postponement until he wraps up other performances, which means delay for many years. Yousef got enthusiastic for producing the series and starring in it while the Egyptian actress Maali Zayed was nominated to take the woman-starring role – Albawaba.com
