Cultural and artistic activities of Jordan’s celebration of Amman as Arab Cultural Capital 2002, are squeezed between the launching of three festivals.
On July 15, the second Souk Ukaz began at the Roman Amphitheatre and the Amman Citadel featuring several Arab and local cultural artistic events, according to Jordan Times.
Renowned Iraqi oud player Naseer Shamma accompanied by the Oyoun Ensemble performed on July 15 at Jabal Qala, followed by a show on Sufi practices by Sheikh Ahmad Jalmam along with his ensemble.
Lebanese singer Haneen will perform on July 16 a fusion of Arabic and Cuban music with a band from that country.
On July 17, a Senegalese dance troupe will hit the stage, to be followed by Chrara, a Tunisian performance of theatre and dance.
Algerian singer Cheb Khaled will give a concert on July 18, and Palestinian musician and composer Simon Shahin and the Qantara ensample will perform on July 19.
Wadih al Safi from Lebanon and Jose Fernandez of Spain will perform a mix of Lebanese and Spanish flamenco music together on July 20.
The local musical group Rum will close the one-week market by performing a collection of Jordanian and Iraqi songs on the 21 July.
The Noor al Hussein Foundation’s Performing Arts Center, in cooperation with Jordan Television, will host the 19th Arab Children’s Congress beginning July 18 under the patronage of Queen Noor with a theme of “Dialogue of Generations.”
The two-week Jerash Festival for Arts and Culture will open on July 24 featuring contemporary music and dance performances by local and international artists – Albawaba.com
