Angham to open Cairo Int’l Song Fest

The eighth Cairo International Song Festival will kick off on August 20, with 40 songs from 15 Arab countries competing in the Arab contest, in addition to many other songs from all over the world competing in the western song contests, according to the Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.  

The festival management has already selected the figures to be honored at the festival including poet Hussein al Sayyed, singer Saad Abdel Wahhab, nephew of the late singer Mohammed Abdel Wahhab, singer Suad Mohammed and the Syrian singer Safwan Bahlawan. 

Egyptian singer Angham has given the nod for performing the opening concert through singing a long series of songs in addition to a performance by the Indian Show Troupe, Shmek Davar, which has achieved big success at last year’s festival. 

The opening ceremony which will be held at Cairo International Conference Center includes music played by Uruguay Symphonic Orchestra and a musical operetta in Arabic, English and French to be portrayed by Shaimaa Said, Mohammed Mazhar and Laila. 

Many concerts will be performed on the sidelines of the festival in the Egyptian resort cities of Sharm al Sheikh, Hardagha and Ras Mohammed in which Hani Shaker, Mohammed Abdo and Ahlam form the UAE will participate -- Albawaba.com
