Three Arab cities are competing to win the rights to build the Middle East’s first “Angry Birds” amusement park.
Qatar’s Doha is racing with the capital of the United Arab Emirates’, Abu Dhabi and al-Ain, the capital’s second largest city.
"We are speaking to private investors in Doha and the UAE, all are interested to install the first Angry Birds theme park in the region, but Doha is in the more advanced stages of negotiation," Nigel Cann, director of operations and development at Gebal Group, the local agents for playground equipment manufacturer Lappset, told The National.
"The presentations have been made, now investors are looking for a space and deciding whether to have an outdoor or indoor park."
The project can be completed within 18 months of one of the competing cities winning the contract, the newspaper reported.
Angry Birds is considered to be the world’s most downloaded game and has more than 21.8 million downloads in across Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait.
The game already has theme parks in UK, Finland and Singapore.
The amusement park, touted to be the world’s biggest attraction, is expected to cost up to $16 million, The National added.
"It is the interactive world meeting the physical world, we are trying to get children off sofas and outside to get some physical exercise. With the higher levels of diabetes and obesity in the region, the developers hope the park will encourage more physical activity," said Cann.
