Arab Idol suicide? Contestant rumored to have killed herself after flopped audition
Fans of popular TV talent competition, Arab Idol II, are in shock following rumors that one of the show's contestants has committed suicide.
Iraqi hopeful Raghad Al Jaber's audition on the hit show went drastically awry when her performance left the judges and viewers across the region in stitches. The wannabe star's Haifa Wehbe inspired performance fell far short of the mark as she failed to carry a tune and was laughed off stage.
After Raghad's disastrous audition went live she was reportedly faced with an onslaught of sarcastic comments on social networking sites.
Reports have now emerged that the Idol contestant was found dead in her home in Adhamiya, Baghdad, on Saturday, after allegedly cutting through an artery in her left wrist.
According to sources, Raghad left a suicide note apologizing to the Iraqi people for letting them down. She described her TV appearance as a "scandal", saying she regretted taking part in the competition.
As the Arab world waits on the reports' confirmation, people may be asking themselves what damage these talent contests could be having on the region.
