Arab Theater Fest in Egypt to Honor Rahbanis

The 2nd Arab Theater Festival will be opened Thursday in Cairo and will last for ten days during which ten Arab plays and two Egyptian ones, will be performed, according to Akhbar al Nugoum magazine. 

“The event will honor twelve Arab prominent dramatists, but the final list of names is not decided yet,” Amr Dwara, the head of the Theater Amateurs Society which organizes the festival, told the magazine, pointing that they have selected the artist Ziad Rahabani from Lebanon to be honored on behalf of the Rahabani brothers for their contribution in the lyric theater. 

Dwara said that the society administration has elected the head of the Artistic Theater House in Egypt, Hani Mtawe’, as the head of the festival which will be held at al Salam Theater in Cairo. 

“For the first time, theater troupes from Algeria, Jordan, Syria and Gulf countries will participate in the event. However, the 1st session last year honored a number of Arab dramatist including, Egyptian actress Samiha Ayyoub, Mohammed Yousef Najem from Lebanon, Hatem al Sayyed (Jordan), al Monji Ibrahim (Tunisia), Fuad al Shatti (Kuwait) and Awni Karmi from Iraq,” added Dwara -- Albawaba.com
