Syrian singer Asalah Nasri is scheduled to hold a concert at the Cairo Opera House in Egypt on February 27, 2004, after which she will head to Abu Dhabi in the UAE to take part in an operetta. The operetta is part of a charitable event, which proceeds will go to needy children.

Asalah has held a concert at the Dubai Shopping Festival Dubai Nights Festival, only her concert was not aired live on television due to technical difficulties. The matter which caused her to become very disappointed, stressing that she refuses to hold any more performances if they are not broadcasted live like the concerts of all the other singers taking part in the festival.

Asalah’s concert was marked with success with an audience of over 1000 mostly Syrians living in Dubai. The singer sang for two hours, revealing she had hoped to be on stage for a longer time due to the fact that her voice becomes stronger after the second hour.

The singer presented a number of her old and new songs in her concert, in addition to a song by the late Tunisian singer Thikra. Asalah had given a moment of silence for the memory of Thikra and revealed that she had cried during rehearsal when singing Thikra’s song.

Nasri had recently decided to pull out of the Arab Musical Festival, which took place in December at the Cairo Opera House in Egypt, after learning that her foe Syrian singer Mayada Al Hinawi would be present. The two singers have been in a verbal war since January, when a heated dispute erupted after Asalah publicly described Mayada as an old woman. The heated dispute erupted between Hinawi and Nasri when the latter publicly ridiculed Mayada in a live TV interview, and said that Mayada has reached such an old age and was outdated.

Mayada became furious and attacked Asalah saying she has no respect for anyone and in turn does not deserve to be respected. Asalah tried to explain to Mayada that she did not mean what she said in the manner it was interpreted, but Mayada refused to accept any excuse from her. Mayadah also refused to accept Asalah’s apology saying that she does not deserve to be forgiven after her rude comments. –Albawaba.com
