Egyptian belly dancer, actress and recently singer, Lucy, announced yesterday that she is gearing up to record an upcoming album, whose name has not been revealed as of yet, marking the second such work for her in two years.
The Egyptian daily, Al Messa, reported Monday that the star, who is working along with actor Yehya Al Fakharani in the new TV series "Joha Al Masri" (The Egyptian Joha), promised that the album will hold several surprises by being different from all music people are hearing today. Earlier this month, a controversy aroused between belly dancers Dina and Lucy over a possible film-role as the late Egyptian dancer, Samia Gamal. The competition was sparked between the two dancers after producer, Sami Al Adel, announced the idea of adapting the biography of Samia Gamal on the big screen.
Lucy expressed her eagerness to play Gamal's role, "it would be a dream come true for me, as I consider Samia Gamal one of the most important belly dancers in the history in Egypt." Meanwhile, Lucy denied that she was engaged in a personal conflict with anybody for that role, reiterating that such a character can be played more than once.
For her part, dancer Dina said that she had been profoundly affected by Gamal's character, her acting and dancing shows, "so if I have the opportunity to play her character on screen, I shall not hesitate." The dancer, who considers herself to be one of Samia Gamals's students, sees herself as the most suited for the role, particularly in view of the fact that she knows all details about Gamal's life.
Scores of belly-dancers in Egypt have signed-up to play Gamal, but producer Sami Al Adel has confirmed he has not given the part to anyone specific yet. – Albawaba.com
