Cairo Opera House Hosts Vienna Symphony Orchestra
The Vienna Symphony Orchestra presents a program including the most prominent wold musicians’ works at the Main Hall of the Cairo Opera House between the period February 7 – 9.
Vienna Orchestra, conducted by Johannes Wildner and featuring Herbert Mueller (viola), Gerald Pachinger, Reinhard Wieser (clarinet) and Dominika Falger (violin), presents a program including Rossini's ouverture to Wilhem Tell, Weber's Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, Strauss's Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald , Mozart's Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra and Beethoven's Symphony No.7 among others, according to al Ahram Weekly.
Part of the Arabic Music Festival, Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Amin Kouider and featuring pianist Ghazwan Zerkali, will play on Sunday Aziz al Shawan's Concerto for piano and orchestra, Ismail Ben Houbou's Arabie en 1001 pensées and Amin Kouider's Sheherazade.
Meanwhile, "Hearing the tone from the Space," a percussion work by Japanese composers presented by percussionist Masaya Takeuchi, consummate pianist Wael Farouq and violinist Ahmed Fahmi, will be performed Sunday at the Small Hall. The program includes Takeuchi's Introduction into the Cosmic World and How to Play the Timpani, Kitazume's Side by Side, Abe's Michi, Ichiyanagi's Trio Interlink for Violin, Piano and Percussion and Matsumura's Neptune for Solo Percussion and Piano.
On Tuesday, Cairo Symphony Orchestra accompanied by pianist Wael Farouq plays Abu Bakr Khayrat's Etudes Lyriques, Poème and Gamal Abdel Rehim's Five Little Pieces. Also, Cairo Orchestra, conducted by Mohamed Siddiq, features a chamber music concert including Ragueh Dawoud's Two Portraits for String Orchestra, Mohamed Siddiq's Concerto for Nay and Orchestra and a selection of Ali Osman's compositions.
Next Wednesday and Thursday, the Cairo Opera Company, directed by Abdel Moneim Kamel, presents Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Ballet and Salah Jahin's classic operetta al Leila al Kebira.
Later, Bass guitarist and composer Yehia Ghannam and his troupe presented Friday at the Small Hall a program of Ghannam's own compositions such as Mariam, Matfutsh Beladna, Concord and Taraheel. While Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Taha Nagui, presented Thursday a chamber orchestra concert including Nader Abbassi's new conception for al Afu Ya Sid al Milah and compositions by Adel Afifi – Albawaba.com
