Cairo, Rabat honor Laila Elwi

The third Rabat International Film Festival began Saturday and will continue for one week. The jury is headed by the Egyptian movie star Laila Elwi who will fly Sunday to Morocco after she has been honored at the opening ceremony of the eighth Cairo Radio and TV Festival, according to the daily al Gomhuria.  

The jury is comprised of the Russian director Marian Hand Werker, Romanian director Sirgin Nicholishco, French critic and director of the Three Continents Festival Phillip Galado and the Moroccan director al Jilani Farhani. The festival will honor Laila Elwi through the festival sidelines programs next Friday by screening her film Ya Donia Ya Gharami. 

Participating in the festival’s contests are 15 films from Italy, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Belgium, Morocco, Brazil, Syria and Egypt. This is in addition to two joint production films between France and Algeria and a Belgian Moroccan film. A Palestinian film entitled Ticket to Jerusalem will be screened at the opening ceremony and the festival will be concluded by the film Little Senegal which is a joint Algerian and French production -- Albawaba.com
