An Egyptian court warned the film director Enas al Deghaidi against accusing Egyptian girls of adultery on baseless grounds.
In her latest film Muthakarat Murahiqa (Adolescent Memoirs), which has been screened for three months, a character says, “half of the girls in Egypt get pregnant as a result of practicing sex without marriage.”
Controversy continued on the juristic and artistic arena in Egypt about the verdict, which threw down the case filed against Deghaidi by an Egyptian lady, called Rania Mohammed Gamal accusing her of curse and defamation.
The former head of the court of appeal Abdel Magid Shaker told the daily al Bayan, “the court threw the case down because it was filed by unconcerned person. The plaintiff had no right to defend the society or Egyptian girls. Law banned such cases and limited them to the prosecution department only.”
Consultant Esmat Abdulla Abdel Rahim pointed out that what Deghaidi released does not come under curse and defamation but was just statements and therefore there was no reason to punish her. “The most important thing in cursing cases is the direct act against the person which may harm him,” said Abdel Rahim adding that this was not relevant in the case of the director -- Albawaba.com
