DAVID DUCHOVNY IS one of the few men in Hollywood to be considered an "intellectual sex symbol." Why? Well, basically its because If not for his breakout success in Hollywood, he would still be teaching English at Yale University!
Born in New York City and raised by a schoolteacher mom, David's original love was of intellectual pursuit, not TV acting. He attended a private Manhattan high school before getting an undergraduate degree from Princeton. It was during his Ph.D pursuit at Yale that he began to attend New York's Actor's Studio which soon led to his first paid acting gig: A commercial for Lowenbrau.
Once the acting bug had hit David, he moved to Los Angeles, where there are many actors but not so many with doctorate degrees. After a few years of minor film roles (obsessed fans take note: Duchovny appears sans clothing in 1991's The Rapture), Duchovny landed the role of his career as the sardonically witty investigator of paranormal activities on The X-Files.
Despite a few post X-Files film roles in Kalifornia and Playing God, Duchovny is still best known and loved by fans as Agent Mulder. In 1998, the television series was brought to the big screen in X-Files: Flight the Future.
In this year's Return to Me, Duchovny plays a man who falls in love with the woman who received his wife's heart during a transplant.
David Duchovny resides with his wife, Tea Leoni and their new born daughter Madaleine West.
