A poor excuse for a woman: Donia Samir Ghanem criticized over "submissive" image
Despite exceeding one million downloads only four days after the release of her song “Wahda Taniah Khalis” (A Totally Different Person), Egyptian actress-turned-singer Donia Samir Ghanem was subjected to harsh criticism from her fans.
The song was Donia's special way of expressing the state of happiness and love that she's living in, now that she's married to journalist Rami Radwan.
“A Different Person” is the main single in Donia's upcoming album, which has spent over two years in the making.
What seems to be le problemo?
According to the Middle East news portal Elaph, female listeners have harshly criticized the song's lyrics.
Donia was accused of portraying herself as a helpless woman after tying the knot, who would only dress and act in a way that pleases her husband, without thinking of what she personally likes.
Some believed that Donia's personality is so weak that she would change herself completely for the sake of love and not expect her partner to do the same for her.
As for her male fans, their comments were that such submissive women are rare and would only act this way for the first year of marriage before changing back their original selves.
