Fans of long absent Egyptian wordsmith Ayman Bahjat Qamer will be pleased to learn the movie-maker is almost done penning his latest film staring Lebanese singer Nicole Saba and upcoming Egyptian actor Ahmad Mekki.
“Abu Al Neel” (Father of the Nile) will go to set in the New Year and hit theatres by May next year.
Details of the film have been kept very quiet, but it will satirize the Egyptian social and political scene. The movie will mark Mekki’s return to the silver screen since the critical failure of “Sima Ali Baba” a year and a half ago.
Secret discussions are reportedly underway between the filmmaker and Mekki to finalize filming locations and fill remaining cast roles.
With conditions in Egypt still unstable, it is likely extra care is being taken over the planning, while insiders admit shoots may be postponed due to ongoing political unrest.
Saba has turned down a role alongside Egyptian singer Ruby in the upcoming film “Al Hafla” (The Party) to work with Mekki, with her role given to Syrian actress Jumana Murad.
