Egyptian Musician Union rejects Pousi and Najla
Composer Munir Al Wasimi, who is the new head of the Egyptian Musician Union, made sure that singer/dancer Pousy Samir was denied membership in the union. The judging committee that Samir had stood in front of to be evaluated had all agreed that she is not fit to be a singer. The committee advised her to changer her career path from singing to acting.
According to the Qatari daily Al Raya, Munir stated that Pousy may be granted permission to record a song if it is part of a film or television series, since she does have membership in the Egyptian Actors Profession Union.
This permission was granted on the condition that Pousy must first submit an official approval from the Actors Union that states she will be recording a song for a certain film or television drama. The letter must specifically state that the song will only be used in the film or TV drama and will serve that purpose only.
On the same note, Al Wasimi has denied rumors that he granted Tunisian singer Najla permission to sing in Egypt. Al Wasimi stressed that he would not allow Najla to sing in Egypt and what is said about him giving her a permit that allows her to sing in Egypt is just a rumor.
The Musician Union is preparing for a series of concerts to be held by its members. The first will be an event that combines prominent Egyptian singers Hani Shaker and Shireen Abd Al Wahab. Al Wasimi revealed that Shireen will be granted membership into the Musician Union, since she is considered to be one of the most important Egyptian singers around the Arab world.
