Egyptian National Fest to Recall the Nakbeh

The 7th National Festival for Egyptian Cinema has chosen the first Egyptian film to tackle the Palestinian issue to be screened at the event's opening ceremony, according to the UAE daily Al Bayan.
The film, entitled Fatah Min Filestin (A Girl From Palestine), shot in 1948 immediately after the Nakbeh (Catastrophe).
It stars Suad Mohammed, Mahmoud Thul Feqar and Hassan Fayeq, was written and produced by Aziza Amir, and was directed by Mahmoud Thul Fiqar.
The film is a love story between an Egyptian pilot and his cousin Salma, whose parents died in an Israeli attack. During the Nakbeh, the pilot’s plane crashes and he becomes permanently handicapped. He suffers an inner conflict over whether or not to continue with his beloved, on whose behalf he failed to take revenge.
The songs of the film were written by the poets Bairam Al Tunisi and Abdel Aziz Salam and composed by Riyad Al Sunbati, Mohammed Al Qasabji, Medhat Asem and Abdel Ghani Al Sheikh – Albawaba.com
