Elham Shaheen fights for women’s rights
Prominent Egyptian actress Elham Shaheen has denied recent allegations that her new film “Youm Lil Sitat” (A Day for women) tackles events that occurred during the Egyptian January 25 Revolution, which overthrew the government of ousted President Husni Mubarak, in order to ensure its success. Elham also denied that the film talks about the intimate relationship between a man and a woman.
According to the internet website MBC.net, Elham stated that the film tackles a number of social subjects in Egyptian society and that had occupied the media for some time. She clarified that the subjects tackled are the constraints placed on women in society and how most women are in a constant battle to be given their rights as citizens and be treated equally.
She added that the storyline of the film attracted her to the point that she decided to personally fund its production despite the risk that she may experience financial loss. She added that she has completely freed herself in the upcoming period to film the scenes of the film and has even halted all work on her new television drama “Ma’ali Al Wazeerah” (Her Excellency the Minister), which is scheduled to be aired during the Ramadan season of 2012. She noted that the remaining cast of the drama will resume filming their scenes that do not include her in order not to be behind.
