Egyptian actress Elham Shahin is for the first time throughout her career taking part in two different TV drama series at the same time. The singer expressed that both works are very different from any she had previously been in and for that reason she did not want to miss out on the opportunity.
According to the Saudi based daily, Al Watan, the two series Elham is starring in are “Mas’alat Mabda” (A Matter of Principle), and “Nijmat Al Jamaheer” (SuperStar). Her role in each is entirely different from the other and at the same time both give her the chance to show the audience her capabilities as an actress.
Earlier this year, Shahin accused Egyptian actress Nadia Al Jundi of buying her award for best actress along with most of the awards she won in the past. Elham said that Nadia has a habit of pressuring and manipulating judges in order to receive awards, which are not rightfully hers.
Elham added that the award Nadia received in Lebanon for best actress in the film "Ishtar" is the biggest proof. The judges awarded Nadia as the best actress for the film before it reached them. Elham's anger towards Nadia was when the latter said that Elham's role in the film (Al Raghba) (Desire) was a complimentary one which held no real significance.
Last December, the Egyptian censorship committee demanded the approval of Al Azhar for the new TV series “Azwaj Al Haja Zahra” (Al Haja Zahra’s Husbands) starring Elham. The censorship’s request for approval by the Al Azhar is due to the fact that the series revolves around the life of a woman who practices polygamy, which is prohibited in Islam.
Elham is to play the role of Al Haja Zahra and will practice the act of polygamy by marrying one man after the other without letting them know. The actress commented that this issue has been a common one these days and her reason behind accepting the role is to warn woman of such occurrences.
Shahin hopes to get the approval of the series for she believes it will be a turning point in her acting career. Scriptwriter Mustafa Muharam who also wrote the script for last year’s Ramadan drama “Al Haj Mitwali” writes the series. - Albawaba.com
