Elham Shahin to Play Role of Anna Karenina
Egyptian actress Elham Shahin is gearing up to shoot her new film Imraah Min Sangaphorah (Woman From Singapore) based on the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy's novel Anna Karenina, according to the daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.
The film was scripted with a new angle by Rafiq Sabban. Either Khairi Besharah or Mohammed Khan will be nominated to direct the film.
The film provides a new vision and surprise, since all of its scenes will be shot in Singapore, making it the first Egyptian film to be totally shot in Singapore, a country that is perceived as exotic in Egyptian cinema," Sabban told the daily.
Three female stars are competing to take the lead role: Nadia Al Gondi, Yusra and Elham Shahin, said the writer, adding that Shahin was the most suitable in view of the fact that Yusra was busy with her new play.
The Egyptian cinema has tackled the novel before, in the film Nahr Al Hobb (Love Rive) directed by Ezz Eddin Thul Fiqar and costarring Faten Hamamah and Omar Sharif - Albawaba.com
