George Wassouf walks back into Rotana
Lebanese singer George Wassouf has announced that he will be renewing his contract with the Music Production Company Rotana, going back on a recent decision he had made refusing the idea completely. George had held a meeting with one of Rotana’s top administration officials to negotiate the prospect of renewing his contract, and resolving any minor complications or loose ends.
After extensive negotiations, Wassouf finally agreed to renew his contract for another three years. The singer had demanded a number of alterations to be made to the contract, to ensure that all his conditions are met and he is given his deserved share. According to the London based Elaph, a press conference is scheduled to take place today, Saturday October 4, 2003 at Virgin Mega Stores in Lebanon, where the renewal will be announced in addition to details regarding the new contract.
Last week and without prior notice, George had announced that he will not renew his contract with Rotana, which has been his tradition to do in the past years. The singer had gone off on a trip to the United States of America to get away from everything and relax, and upon his return he surprised the officials at Rotana with his latest decision and told them that this time he does not plan to proceed with them when his contract ends.
The real reason behind George’s decision was not clear, but it was revealed that he had received a very generous offer from a different production company. Some stated that the reason behind George leaving Rotana is due to a number of disputes that exist between him and the administration of the company. It was added that a few years back, a major dispute had fell between George and Rotana over financial issues, but was resolved by close contact to both sides.
George had stressed that his decision this time is final and he does not intend on going back on it. He added that he is not obliged to give any justification for his walking out, for the contract between him and Rotana ends very soon and he is free to join the production of his choice.
The release of the album “Salaf Wa Dain" (Borrow and Debt) has proven that Wassouf is still dominating the number one spot in the music charts bringing in the highest record sales. The singer witnessed this success around the entire Arab world and is heading towards being noted the best and number one album to be released this year. The singer is also experiencing a similar success on his personal website, which turned out to be the largest and most visited website for any one singer. The site also holds the largest number of members reaching over 9 thousand names. –Albawaba.com
