Haifa Wehbe's not-so-sensible "sexy-fied" rape film delayed in release
Just after Lebanese singer-turned-actress Haifa Wehbe completed filming her role in the upcoming film "Halawet Rouh" (Rouh's Beauty), which will be screened in most cinemas around the Arab world at the end of Jan, she’s now faced with the possibility of a minor delay in its release due to a teeny tiny problem with the Egyptian Censorship Committee. You don’t say!
According to the Middle East news portal Elaph, the Egyptian Censorship Committee has decided to delay the film’s release until they’ve thoroughly watched it. Head of the Committee, Ahmad Awwad, apparently discovered that the film contains way too many profanities and provocative scenes that are sexually arousing, especially those of Haifa's rape scene with actor Mohammad Lutfi and her kissing scenes with actor Basim Samrah. So much for Wehbe saying it was all done tastefully, eh?
Haifa requested the film's director Samih Abdel Aziz to carefully consider the way her rape scene will be filmed.
Haifa demanded that everyone leave the set when filming for 'that' scene begins, in order that she can give her full focus to it and do it justice by keeping it gritty as possible.
She said her aim is to deliver the scene in a 'non-provocative' or sensationalist way and to portray her character as the victim who viewers will sympathize with, according to Sayidaty.net.
The film stars Haifa, Mohammad Lutfi, Salah Abdullah, Karim Al Abnudi and was directed by Sameh Abdel Aziz and written by Ali Al Jundi. It is produced by Mohammad Al Sabki and is a social romance which revolves around a woman named "Rouh" who is faced with numerous harsh conditions in her life and tries to overcome all obstacles and faces her fears to be a successful woman.
