A group of literary critics of the theater and their head were forced to submit a group resignation from the Higher Institute of Theater and Arts in Damascus after renowned Syrian actor Jamal Suleiman hit one of their students. The actor had beaten and used foul language against the student and the department he belonged to, after over hearing the student mock him in front of others.
According to the Saudi based daily, Al Watan, the resignation was submitted to Syrian actor Hassan Owaity head of the institute. Jamal had overheard two students talking, one holding the same first name, and though he was the intended in their conversation forcing an outbreak in the actor, which lead to the use of force and without thinking charging against the student pulling him by the shirt and start beating him. The incident was viewed by many as unacceptable by such a respectable actor who has made a name for himself in the acting world. A moment of anger caused a lifetime of humiliation for the actor.
Others believe that the actor's reaction to what happened was understandable in the sense that he is a simple man who had an outbreak of violence, an understandable instance, especially if his reputation was being tampered with by someone.
Students at the institute had written detailed letters of the incident and sent it to public newspapers, but were disappointed to find that the papers refused to publish such stories. This led the students to post the incident on the Internet and had sent it to a large number of people through email.
The incident is one of a number that have occurred between famous actors and people in their line of work. Sudden outbreak of violence has been a common phenomenon, sometimes leading to serious injuries to those who have been attacked. -Albawaba.com
