JENNIFER LOPEZ IS a beautiful Bronx-born, Puerto Rican actress, who is the highest-paid Latina actress in the history of film (at about $1 million per film). A far cry from her humble beginnings, to be sure.
Born in 1970 to a computer specialist and a kindergarten teacher, Jennifer knew from an early age that showbiz was the calling for her. Broadway was her first break, making good use of her singing and dancing abilities. After being in the chorus lines of many productions, Jennifer landed a gig as one of In Living Color's dancers, The Fly Girls. Having Rosie Perez as a choreographer helped her to land her next job on the CBS TV series, Second Chances. The show was given a second chance under the name Malibu Road, but it still didn't manage to gain a following.
As is the case with most TV actors, Jennifer's part in Malibu Road led to her first role in a feature film, Mi Familia. Although it was only a supporting role, it was enough to land her another role, this time in the Wesley Snipes/ Woody Harrelson film, The Money Train. Jennifer received high marks despite Bob Dole's request that the public avoid the film.
After a supporting stint in Francis Ford Coppola's Jack, Jennifer won the role that would launch her into the public eye: playing Selena in the biopic of the same name (her dancing and vocal talents helped.)
Before she knew it, Jennifer was one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People and was fighting a giant killer snake in the surprise hit Anaconda. Another couple of major roles in the modern noir flicks Blood and Wine and U-Turn secured Jennifer's superstar status.
