Recently, the Qatari government granted the Qatari citizenship to Iraqi singer Kathem El Saher, who accepted it in great honor and pride. However; some educated Iraqis did not see it as an honor that Kathem give up his Iraqi citizenship and identity and consider him a traitor for doing so.

Some newspapers commented that the famous Iraqi singer should have turned the Qatari citizenship down, instead of being proud since Qatar upheld the first American forces with the war on Iraq.

The same group also criticized the constant meeting with the Egyptian businessman Najeeb Swairis; where he has a big share in the Iraqi cell phone company “Iraqana”. Many Iraqis believe that the company “Iraqana” is owned by Israeli and American businessmen.

The educated Iraqi group that met in Egypt also stated that they feel sad since El Saher never sang a song for Iraq after the war. They made it clear that the only song he sang about Iraq is “Baghdad” and this song came out before the Americans went into Baghdad.
