A number of rumors have recently circulated regarding the secret marriage of Iraqi singer Kathem El Saher to a Spanish woman. In response to the rumors, Kathem announced publicly in an interview on Dream TV that there is no truth behind the news of his alleged secret marriage.
According to the London based Elaph, Kathem said “If the day comes and I fall in love, the first people I will announce the news will be my fans. I am not ashamed to fall in love once more and look forward the opportunity to do so.” The singer also added “I know that many tabloids have written lies about me and my personal life, but I swear that I am not married and on the contrary marriage to me is such a sacred union that I would never think of doing it in secrecy. The minute I marry again the whole world will know it is not a matter to be ashamed of.”
Kathem went on to ask for a prayer for all the Iraqi children and people. And hoped that this year will bring hope to his country and end their sufferings. He also prayed that the conscious of the Arab world will awaken and realize what his people are going through.
The singer added that he feels ashamed that he is unable to help his people and ease their misery. And this is the kind of issue a person should be ashamed of not getting married. Kathem went on to stress that the moment he finds the woman of his dreams who will make him happy and give him hope to a better future, he will appear on public TV with her along his side. He will announce to the world saying “This is the woman of my dreams and my lifelong companion.”
In December, rumors circulated around the secret marriage of El Saher saying he had been forced to keep his marriage under a lid due to the political crisis in the region and the possibility of a war on Iraq. One of the main reasons behind was due to the fact that his new wife, whom he has lived a somewhat romantic love story with, is half-Spanish (from the father’s side) and half-Arab (from the mother’s side).
Tabloids also wrote that Kathem felt that the time was not appropriate to announce his marriage publicly because of public tension and negative opinion towards the West. The singer has taken residence for him and his new wife in Paris-France, but is unable to spend all his time with his bride due to his busy schedule. Despite his constant travelling, the singer makes it a point to spend as much of his time with his wife wanting to be a dedicated husband.
On a different note, the singer recently moved his mother out of Iraq to reside in a new home in Egypt, incase of war breaking out. Kathem was unable to do this to the rest of his family due to their large number, which exceeded fifty individuals.
The Iraqi singer released his new album in June entitled “Qissat Habibain” (two lovers story). In this album he offers 12 songs that cover all forms of sung words including poem, Mawwal and pop song.
“I recorded 24 songs written by prominent poets and I had to select 12 only, which was a very difficult task. Ultimately my choice was right and I am very happy with this album for its quick success,” Saher said.
Frequently, the singer finds “composing pop songs more difficult than poems. This is due to the fact that a poem and beautiful words bring pleasure and relaxation. Here comes creativity but the difficulty in a pop song lies in the need for it to be simple in order to reach people and be close to their souls.”
