With the end of the first third of Ramadan, it has been apparent that most Egyptian TV dramas are competing for the most exposure on TV. Over twenty Arab television stations bought rights to air Egyptian shows and series, making it a point to air series that star well-known actors like Nour El Sherif, Yusra, Mahmoud Yasin, Hussain Fahmi, and many more. Each drama was trying to sell it self to as many local and satellite TV stations as possible to make the most profits.
According to the Egyptian daily, Al Akhbar, most dramas are currently being aired before Iftar (Breaking of Fasting) time, since they receive a larger number of viewers than after Iftar.
The daily reported that the Gulf TV satellite stations Abu Dhabi and Kuwait air at least four different Egyptian dramas daily. The three most aired shows are “A’yna Qalbi” (Where is My Heart) Costarring Yusra and Abla Kamil, “Ameera Fi Abdeen” (Ameera in Abdin) Costarring Samirah Ahmad and Hanan Turk, and “Faris Bila Jawad” (Knight Without a Horse) starring Mohammad Subhi.
It is also noted that a team of officials from the Egyptian Production Company have previously gone on business visits to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and UAE to sign agreements for selling around 150 hours of TV shows and drama series for an amount of 30 million Egyptian Pounds. Around 5350 hours were sold to Arab countries like Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, Qatar, Tunisia, Yemen, Oman, and Qatar for approximately 105 million Egyptian pounds. –Albawaba.com
