Renowned Egyptian actress Laila Fawzi is lying in hospital these days after a tragic car crash accident she made on her way back to Cairo after the concluding ceremony of the 18th Alexandria Film Festival.

The daily Bayan newspaper has reported that the actress was driving her own car with Journalist Hasan Shah through the desert highway at night, as the car slid off the road and went down to rest in an agricultural nursery.

"I was driving the car by myself, but unfortunately I lost control of the steering wheel as Hasan Shah asked me to put on the AC for her," actress Fawzi told the daily Bayan newspaper.

Fawzi thanked God that the accident happened this way with no more injuries; adding that the car was totally crashed.

The actress was among the six stars honored at the Alexandria Festival, receiving the festival's shield for her artworks. Other stars honored were Amina Rizeq, Naglaa Fathi, Shweekar, Mohammed Subhi, and Yousef Sherif.

Fawzi's last acting role was in a romantic series entitled "Piano" with actors Abu Baker Ezzat and Dalia Mustafa. The series, marking the direction debut for Samah Anwar, depicts a woman (played by Fawzi) who supports her mentally ill niece and attempts to take her out of her crisis despite all social circumstances which the girl faces. – Albawaba.com
