Egyptian actress Laila Ulwi next month begins shooting her TV series Fallah Fi Balat Sahibat Aljalah (Farmer at the Court of Her Majesty), written by Nadi Khalifah and directed by Hani Lashin. Mamdouh Abdel Alim and Nashwa have lead roles in the series.

Ulwi plays a journalist in WWII who sacrifices her life to get news from the front.

Meanwhile, writer Abulula Assalamoni has nominated Ulwi to star in a historical series about Egyt’s female ruler Shajarat Addorr.

The actress told the London based Al Sharq Al Awsat daily that she had “accepted in principle my nomination for starring in Shajarat Addorr.”

She said she took the part “because it will be the first time in my artistic career that I play a historical role, bearing in mind that the previous series on Shajarat Addorr marginalized her.”

Furthermore, Ulwi is currently rolling out her latest movie Bahibb Essima (I Love Cinema), in which she plays a drawing teacher who becomes the headmistress of a primary school. The film was written by Hani Fouzi, directed by Osama Fouzi and costars Mahmoud Hmaidah.

Ulwi’s latest screen role was in the made-for-TV movie Noor Wa Nar (Light and Fire), along with Farouk Fishawi, under the direction of Ahmed Yahya.

As for her series, the latest was Attawam (The Twins), which goes back more than four years and was directed by Mjdi Abu Ameerah - Albawaba.com
