Late belly dancer Samia Gamal sparks a conflict between Dina and Lucy
The exciting life history of the late Egyptian dancer Samia Gamal, including her relationship with late King Farouq and renowned late singer Farid Al Atrash, has kindled trouble between Egyptian belly dancers; each one seeking to play the role of Gamal on the big screen.
The Egyptian daily, Al Gomhuriya, reported Sunday that competition sparked between dancers Dina and Lucy immediately after producer Sami Al Adel announced the idea of adapting the life of Samia Gamal on the big screen.
“I have been profoundly affected by her character and acting and dancing shows, so if I have the opportunity to play her character on the screen, I shall not hesitate,” said dancer Dina. The dancer, who considers herself to be one of Samia Gamals’s students, finds herself to be the most suitable to perform the role, particularly in view of the fact that she knows all details about Gamal's life.
In response to the question whether problems have sparked between her and dancer Lucy, Dina said, "I have been facing an ongoing war and do not want more problems, I do not want to struggle with anybody. Every one of us has the right to see herself more fit for the role but the ultimate decision will be for the producer and director," Dina concluded.
For her part, Lucy expressed her eagerness to play Gamal's role, "it would be a dream come true for me, as I consider Samia Gamal one of the most important belly dancers in the history in Egypt." Meanwhile, Lucy denied that she has engaged in a conflict with anybody for the role, reiterating that this character can be played more than once.
A large number of dancers aspire to be nominated for the role, but producer Sami Al Adel confirmed that the role is not referred to anyone yet. – Albawaba.com
