Tunisian famous singer Latifa made clear during a press conference she held in Tunisia before her performance at the Carthage Festival, that she will not take the Egyptian citizenship. She stated that it is a mere rumor that she obtained the Egyptian citizenship and in her heart she’s already Egyptian.
Latifa stressed that she will always be grateful for Egypt, because that’s where she was found and supported into who she is today. Yet she won’t make any attempt to obtain the Egyptian citizenship, even though it would be an honor and award for her to have it.
According to the London daily Elaph, Latifa denies that her concert at the Jerash Festival was a failure. Latifa still believes that the new management at the festival is the reason behind this failure. She says that there was hardly any type of advertisements; therefore, an investigation will take place to find out the true reasons behind the matter.
At the press conference some journalist blamed her for not favoring the filming of a video clip for one song over the other. Latifa defends the filming of the first song “Al Homah Al Arabi” “Arabic Popular Rural Neighborhood”, by making sure she’s very pleased with the outcome of it. Journalist believe that her other song “Ashqana” (I’m In Love), which talks about the Nile and Egypt, was given more effort and filmed with better filming equipment where it came out looking better than the first clip.
Latifa also adds that many Arabs from other Arab countries were having hard time understanding the meaning of the song. She received many phone calls over the meaning of the word “Homah” and once she made clear what it meant the song was understood.
