On her way to the Carthage festival to perform her scheduled concert, Tunisian singer Latifa suffered a car accident, but emerged unscathed.
The singer was in the company of her family and friends, and the only person slightly injured was her hair dresser.
The accident only delayed Latifa’s performance, which marks her return to her mother country after a five-year absence. The concert drew a large audience, including the Tunisian Minister of Culture and a number of Tunisian artists.
The singer sang a new song entitled “Ya Watani” (My Country) and dedicated it to Tunisia. Latifa’s two hour performance including her most popular hits dazzled the audience.
Latifa had agreed to give her performance after Festival director, Mr. Raouf Bin Amr, promised to revive the Festival, a request Latifa had made during several interviews. She had expressed concern that the event was becoming too inclusive, and should be reserved for elite talent.
The singer also revealed that she will be performing a number of concerts in Tunisia at other festivals.
Latifa is considering entering the cinema once more in the new film “Gana El Hawa.”(translation) Young director Mohammad Al Jarwani has nominated Egyptian actors Khales Saleh and Hassan Husni to costar alongside Latifa in the film.
