Egyptian veteran poet Ahmed Shafiq Kamel is back to writing in Operet Al Salam Al Adel (an operetta for a just peace) which will be performed by a number of Arab song stars during Egypt’s celebration of the 28th anniversary of the October Arab-Israeli war, according to the Arabic daily Al Raya.

Among the singers expected to take part are: Hani Shaker, Amal Maher (Egypt), Kathem Al Saher (Iraq), Abdullah Al Rweished (Kuwait) and Lutfi Bushnak (Tunisia).

Music will be jointly written by three prominent composers: Omar Khairat, Ammar Al Sherei’ and Jamal Salameh.

Kamel stopped writing poetry 30 years ago. Before that, he had written lyrics for several famous operettas and songs performed by Arab mega singers, such as Al Watan Al Akbar (the greater homeland operetta), Hikayet Shaab (the tale of a people), Mataleb Shaab (the demands of a people), Ulna Hanebni (we said we would build [the Aswan high dam]) and Khalli Al Silah Sahi (keep arms awake) – Albawaba.com
