Fahed Al Abdulla’s Folkdancing Troupe wowed the crowd at a concert Friday night at the Cairo Opera House to mark the 58th anniversary of Lebanese independence, according to news agencies.
The troupe performed dances drawing on their Lebanese folk background, in addition to Tannourah dancing which goes back to Sufi religious rituals (some experts relate it to the Sufi methodology of Aref Billah Sheikh Jalal Eddin Al Roumi).
In addition, they moved through many modern dances designed by director Saad Al Abdullah.
Lebanese singers Sumayyah Baalbaki and Ghassan Saliba participated in the concert along with the troupe, in addition to an Egyptian-Lebanese ensemble led by the Lebanese maestro Nabih Al Khatib.
A large number of public figures attended the concert including the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Mousa, Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni and his Lebanese counterpart Ghassan Salameh, and the majority of the Arab ambassadors to Cairo. This is in addition to a large number of reporters and members of the Lebanese community residing in the Egyptian capital.
