Madonna and Britney Could Join Forces
Everyone knows that Madonna loves Britney Spears. The recently married Queen of Pop started a trend last year when she performed in New York and appeared on CBS's The Late Show With David Letterman wearing a T-shirt with Britney's name emblazoned across the front.
Now, an insider from the Spears camp has told MTV that the pop princess has reserved several days in May for a possible studio collaboration with the Material Mom.
Though nothing is confirmed, Spears is planning a late 2001 follow-up to last year's Oops!… I Did It Again, which was the fastest-selling record ever by a female artist and finished the year with sales of more than 7 million units.
Meanwhile, Madonna didn't obliterate records with her latest release, Music, but she did top charts around the world. Any new material is more likely to appear on the Spears album, since Madonna appears to be busying herself with film projects in 2001, including a role in The Mole, the next project of her new husband, director Guy Ritchie.
But before anyone makes advance orders of the blockbuster pop duet, the two will have to make it to the studio … and their good vibes will have to survive a face-off at the Feb. 21 Grammy Awards show in Los Angeles, where the singers will vie for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Earlier this week, Madonna, the 42-year-old performer, who's been a chart-topper since the 1983 releases of Holiday and Lucky Star told of her obsession with the younger artist in the February issue of Elle: "I find it irritating that everyone beats up on Britney Spears. I want to do nothing but support her and praise her. I mean, she's 18 years old! It's just shocking. I wish I'd had my shit together when I was 18. I was so gawky and geeky and awkward and unsure of myself. I didn't have a tan! I didn't know how to dress!" – Albawaba.com.
