A concert for prominent Lebanese singer Majida Al Roumi at the Syrian opera house had given rise to chaos to breakout among workers at the Syrian television network. The management of Syrian TV had decided to cut 5% of the employees' salaries last month and also will cut 10% of their salaries till the end of the year.
These decisions were made to cover the cost of Majida's concert, which reached around 20 million Syrian Lira. A source within the TV management said that the amounts of money was not cut out of the basic salary but form the wages the employees take from their work on the programs.
Head of the channel one in Syrian TV revealed in a press conference with Majida that the later refused to charge any money for her concert in the Syrian opera house, in order not cause this kind of commotion and deprive people of their wages.
The Syrian Opera House had witnessed a memorable performance by Majida despite the problems that surfaced in the after math. Majida started the concert with an opening song greeting her Syrian audience and moved on to sing a collection of old and new songs that made the classical event a very successful one.
This was the first time Majida visits Syria in the past thirteen years. The singer was accompanied by a very large chorus in addition to 60 musician lead by maestro Asaad Khoury. -Albawaba.com
