Lebanese singer Marwa has denied circulating rumors that she was sexually harassed and a group of young men attempted to rape her during her concert in Alexandria Egypt. Marwa revealed that the truth of the matter was that she began performing wearing a long dress, contrary to what was said of her wearing a very skimpy outfit, and the concert was a big success. She adds that once the concert ended she realized that the exit door for her is the same one for all the audience.
Fans began storming towards her anxious to have their picture taken, but the situation got too crowded and she began to panic having so many people around her. The singer began to cry in fear and her bodyguards attempted to take her to her car to only realize that thousands of fans were waiting.
Marwa denied any attempts of harassment from her fans stressing that they only wanted to be able to see her up close. At this point the singer and her bodyguards realized that it would be impossible for her to leave in her car and so she was led to an apartment close by to wait until fans had scattered.
Policemen had arrived at the scene and questioned Marwa about attempts of harassment, but she denied any attempt and stated that the mob outside were fans that wanted to express their love towards her.
Rumors had it that Marwa lived in fear for a few hours after she finished her concert, and what had happened after her concert was more like a horror movie and a nightmare that she still can’t take out of her mind.
According to the London daily Elaph, it was said that Marwa predicted that such thing might happen; therefore she asked for sixty bodyguards to protect her from the large number of fans who came to see her. Marwa adds that when she got to where she held the concert she was surprised to find out that there aren’t as many bodyguards as she requested.
However, those who were in charge of the concert calmed her down and made sure that everything was under control, which meant that she wouldn’t cancel her concert. There were a large number of fans that came to see her; therefore, she had to respect them and go along with the concert.
Marwa was surprised to see that a number of young men were able to get on stage and came on to where she was performing and suddenly she became confused and didn’t know what was going on. Marwa started running away with the help of the bodyguards where they reached a nearby building. They all went in to the building and knocked on the door of an apartment on the first level. A woman opened the door and welcomed Marwa in till 4am, by then Marwa was able to leave to Cairo.
The instance caused some commotion in Egypt’s Parliament as some members criticized and accused the singer for brining on such behavior from fans. Members blamed Marwa for creating chaos by wearing an inappropriate dress that showed off most of her body and added that her style of performing was all about seduction, which in turn will sure excite most young men present.
Parliament members have requested that the Egyptian Censorship Committee play a more prominent role in such concerts and that a decision should be made to call off all concerts at beaches and a ban should be made on singers like Marwa who rely on seducing their audience.
