Away from the spotlights and amidst family members and close friends, Lebanese singers Maya Nasri and Marwan Khoury got engaged at a private ceremony in Maya’s home. The couple surprised everyone with their union, which was intended to stay a secret until Maya began filming the scenes of her new television drama “Sultan Al Gharam” (Sultan of Love).
According to the London based Elaph, after the engagement party, Marwan took Maya out to a private dinner. The couple had been intimately involved for the past two years when Marwan offered Maya one of his compositions for a song. Even though Maya had moved her residence to Egypt, the two remained to be a couple.
Marwan, who in the past repeatedly stressed he would not get involved with someone from the entertainment world, had also waited until he furnished his new home to propose to Maya.
During a phone interview with Marwan he stated that his engagement to Maya was one of the biggest steps in his life and that he had presented her with the song “Kasr El Shouk” (Palace of Love) and revealed that the engagement was supposed to have taken place on Valentine’s Day, but Maya’s preoccupation with filming the scenes for her film “Code 36” caused them to postpone.
Maya, who had come to Beirut for two days for the engagement revealed that she is in the process of preparing a duet with Marwan that will be based on their relationship. The wedding is scheduled to take place during the summer.
The two had been successful of concealing their relationship from the press and even from their closest friends and family members.
After her debut on the big screen in the film "Code 36", Maya celebrated the beginning of filming the scenes for her first television drama "Sultan Al Gharam".
The drama marks Maya's first leading role on TV. She will costar alongside Egyptian actors Khaled Saleh, Lucy, Tarek Lutfi and new comer Sandy. The series is written by Mohammad Ashraf and directed by Shireen Al Adel, who had previously directed the television dramas "Sarah" and Agent 1001".
The story of the drama revolves around a poor man, named Sultan, who dreams of becoming rich and begins his journey from rags to riches.
Throughout the series of events, he meets Maya, a business women suffering from an over possessive husband. Maya eventually leaves her husband and marries Sultan after he had become a successful business man.
Recently, Nasri went on a number of tours around different Egyptian cinema houses to see cinema goers reactions to her film "Code 36", in which she stars in alongside Egyptian actor Mustafa Shabaan.
The film had made over one million Egyptian pounds in profit, which is considers to be a very good amount for a film released at such a time, that is considered to be the low season in the film industry.
The film, written by Nader Salah El Din, is directed by Ahmad Faraj, his first feature length film, and is produced by Hisham Abdul Khaleq.
In the film, Maya plays the role of a singer and aerobics instructor who, after a severe accident, is forced to hire a private body guard played by Mustafa. This new relationship marks the beginning of their romance.
