Actress Melanie Griffith has enrolled in a recovery program to treat an addiction to prescription drugs, television program Access Hollywood reported Tuesday.

In a statement to the NBC entertainment show, Griffith wrote: "My doctor has referred me to the Daniel Freeman Hospital to step down from the prescribed medication that I have been taking for a neck injury."

"I appreciate everyone's concern and I am sure that you will respect my and my family's privacy."

The 42-year-old Griffith, who is married to Spanish heartthrob Antonio Banderas, entered a rehab center in 1988, after coming to terms with her addiction to drugs and alcohol while making "Working Girl," for which she earned an Academy Award nomination.

She met Banderas during the 1995 filming of comedy "Two Much." The couple married in May 1996 and have a four-year-old daughter, Stella del Carmen. – AFP.
