Despite suffering a medical emergency, Beirut Judge Jocelyn Thabet has ordered that Lebanese singer Michelin Khalifeh be kept in detention on charges of issuing a bad check, according to Agence France Presse.
The singer was given an emergency transfer from Verdan Women’s Prison in Beirut to Ghusein Hospital after she was struck with hypertension and had a nervous breakdown. She was guarded at the hospital and no one could visit her without obtaining permission from the prosecutor general in Beirut.
The London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat said that the singer’s lawyer, Munir Al Haj, had appealed to the judge to set the singer free.
“Contacts are being made…on all sides to secure the check’s value, amounting to $21,800, and pay the plaintiff in order to have the singer set free,” added the daily – Albawaba.com
