IT IS HARD to believe that this woman was made fun of in high school for having a “weird mouth,” but it’s true… But, that’s all in the past now that Pfeiffer’s mouth has become a milestone of Hollywood beauty.
The graceful, beautiful, and extremely talented actress Michelle Pfeiffer has come a long way since she made her TV debut on the show Fantasy Island. She traveled a difficult road, with stops for roles unequal to her prodigious talent, until she finally arrived at Brian De Palma's crime story Scarface, in which she starred as Tony Montana's (Al Pacino) wife in Scarface. That impressive performance gave her the recognition she needed, and she quickly began to land some serious roles.
In 1988, she received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work in Dangerous Liaisons, and within in a year she was nominated again -- this time for Best Actress for her portrayal of a lounge singer in The Fabulous Baker Boys. The offers kept on coming for Pfeiffer, and before she knew it, she was roaming around Gotham in a cat suit in a starring role in Batman Returns with Michael Keaton, Danny De Vito, and Christoper Walken. Then she starred in the adaptation of Edith Wharton's classic novel The Age of Innocence, in which she shared the screen with Oscar winner Dainel Day-Lewis. (With whom she also, coincidentally, shares a birthday -- April 29).
Pfeiffer was born in Santa Ana, California. Before she made the move to Hollywood, she was Miss Orange County and worked as a checkout person at her local supermarket. Can you imagine buying your groceries and hearing Michelle Pfeiffer say sing, "I need a price check on isle six" over the intercom?
Recently she won critical praise for her performance in the surprise box office hit Dangerous Minds, in which she portrays a teacher in an inner city school who's determined to rescue her dysfunctional class by teaching them the works of Bob Dylan and Dylan Thomas. She also recently shared the screen with ER heartthrob George Clooney in the romantic comedy One Fine Day.
Pfeiffer is at the height of her powers and in the position to call her own shots. She has developed several projects of her own, including a biopic about the life of American painter Georgia O'Keeffe and an adaptation of Jane Smiley's novel A Thousand Acres.
