Years after the dispute between Egyptian singer Midhat Saleh and belly dancer Fifi Abdo erupted, Midhat has been arrested by Cairo police and sentenced to a two-year prison term.
The court ruled in favor of Fifi, who charged that Midhat had wrote her a bad check for half a million Egyptian pounds.
Midhat wrote several checks to Fifi as repayment for money she had loaned him.
According to the London based Elaph, the actor appealed the ruling, but it was denied.
Midhat told the court that he did not take the money from Fifi as a loan, but instead it was an investment by her in his new recording studio. Midhat added that every investment has the possibility of loss or gain, and that he should not be obliged to cover Fifi's losses.
Fifi had filed the complaint in June 2002 after Midhat refused to refund her money and to return her calls.
Several people from the entertainment world tried to persuade Fifi to make amends with Midhat, but she refused.
Midhat stated that he hoped all problems would be resolved, so the two could once again be good friends.
