In the streets of downtown Cairo, director Mohammad Khan filmed the wedding ceremony of young Egyptian actress Muna Shalabi and actor Khaled Abu Al Najja; one of the final scenes of their upcoming movie “Banat Wast Al Balad” (Downtown Girls). The remaining cast of the film, including Tunisian actress Hind Sabri, Egyptian actor Izzat Abu Ouf, Ahmad Budair, Mohammad Najati, and Majda Al Khateeb, all were present for the scene.
According to the London based, Elaph, the crew worked diligently to control the crowds that gathered to watch. The wedding scene, amongst others, was shot in a Cairo neighborhood to give the film a more realistic quality.
The film revolves around two female, working class friends, and the obstacles they face in their struggle to survive. The issues of how poorer, working class people, deal with emotional and social problems are central themes of the film.
Producer, Mohammad Zein revealed that the film is scheduled for completion in three weeks, and the movie will be ready for screening in cinema houses during the upcoming Muslim holiday Eid El Fitr.
On a more personal note, Muna recently experienced an emotional trauma that led to the deterioration of her health, forcing her to be hospitalized for a few days. She refused to give any details, and attributed her condition to a bad diet and excessive smoking, which caused her blood pressure to drop drastically.
