Muscat Festival opens with Majed Al Mohandes, Carmen Suleiman, and Mohammad Abdo in concert
The stage is set for the much-awaited Muscat Festival 2014, a month-long annual event showcasing Omani and international art and culture, to be inaugurated at Naseem Park and Al Amerat Park today.
Along with a host of new participants from various governorates of the Sultanate, 62 countries from various parts of the world would be exhibiting their art and cultural heritage at the event.
The festival will run till February 22 and the timing for the visitors is from 4:30pm to 11pm.
The festival, virtually a make-shift global cultural village put together in Muscat, is expected to host a number of new activities this year and will comprise exhibitions that were not part of the previous editions of the event.
International consumer exhibition, amusement arts city, family village, arena of skills and events, main theatre events, Omani concerts — Tarab, restaurants corner, shepherds corner and government organisations, institutions, associations and clubs would feature at the Naseem Park. The much appreciated fireworks would also be held in the park at 8pm.
Among the prominent features of the Muscat Festival at the Al Amerat Park will be the Omani Heritage Village showcasing the lifestyle of various parts of Oman, their art and cultural heritage.
Two major international events – International Festival of Crafts and International Festival of Traditional Arts – will also be held at the Al Amerat Park.
Along with this, a Muscat Municipality corner, restaurant corner, shepherds' corner and various government organisations, institutions, associations and clubs would feature at the Al Amerat Park. A set of 'dazzling shows' would also be performed at the Al Amerat Park. These shows would employ multi-media and modern audio-video techniques, while displaying panels and pictures to showcase the history and culture of Oman.
There would also be fireworks and laser shows and pyrotechnics. At the International Festival of Traditional Arts, various Arab, Asian and European countries, including Oman, Morocco, Tajikistan, Bahrain, Turkey, Russia, Iran and India would be showcasing various dates. Similarly, at the International Festival of Crafts, two sets of a total of 30 countries from around the world would participate from January 23 to February 7 and from February 8 to February 22, at the Al Amerat Park.
University and college beach soccer championship, private schools contest and shows, taekwondo shows, free-style dance shows, traditional sports and games, marine festival, traditional boat race, row boat race, folklore bands, tent pegging, motorcycle race, speed challenge racing, show jumping and Muscat Marathon 2014 are various day-long sporting events to be part of the festival at various places between January 24 and February 22.
The Tour of Oman will be organised between February 18 and 23 at various destinations in and around Muscat.
Majed Al Mohandes, accompanied by Carmen Suleiman, and Mohammed Abdo accompanied by Balqis Ahmad Fat'hi and Salah Al Zadjali, will be presenting two concerts at the City Amphitheatre on January 23 and on February 2, respectively.
