Prominent Egyptian actress Nabila Obeid has denied circulating rumors that she considers herself to be in competition with internationally known American singer Madonna. The actress also denied imitating Madonna in her new play “Evita”, which is the same name of Madonna’s film that was out in 1996.
The new play also costars singer Midhat Saleh, actors Waheed Seif, and Hassan Kami. The play is a musical that revolves around comical political issues. Nabila plays the role of a dancer who plans to work as a television announcer.
After several attempts, her dream comes true and then she turns into a movie star and begins to have major influence on people in the political scene.
The play is scheduled to be shown during the summer. Director of the play Sameer Al Asfour, revealed that the story of the play is taken from Madonna’s film, which is based on a play written by international writer Brown. The play was translated into Arabic by Dr. Samir Sarhan.
On a different note, Nabila’s latest film “Mafeesh Ghair Kidda is currently being screened in cinema houses around Egypt.
The film, directed by Khaled Al Hajjar, stars young Egyptian actors Muna Shalabi, Ahmad Azmi, and Khaled Abu El Naja, who play the roles of her children.
The film revolves around a mother who dreams that her children will become famous singers, and Nabila and her children perform a song written especially for them by Kawthar Haikal.
Nabila Obeid has signed a contract for the leading role in a new television drama "Al Bawaba Al Thanieh" (The Second Door), to be aired during the upcoming Ramadan season. The contract states that the actress will receive a wage of three million Egyptian pounds for her role.
Nabila stated that she is not willing to accept a wage less than the one stated and had added a number of other conditions in the contract to her advantage.
A director for the drama is not yet chosen and the remaining cast are currently being selected.
