Egyptian actress Nadia Al Jundi has refused to accept the Egyptian Broadcasting Television’s schedule for the airing of her upcoming television drama “Mishwar Imra’a” (A Woman’s Journey) during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. The actress has written a complaint to the head of the television stressing that the time for airing her drama is unsuitable and will negatively reflect on its success.

According to the London based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat, Nadia stressed that airing the drama on the second channel and at such an inappropriate time is an insult to her and her career and especially due to the fact that this drama marks her return to the silver screen after a-25 year absence. Nadia demanded that her drama be moved to the first channel and is aired at a time when there is a large number of viewers.

Officials at the broadcasting company have revealed that Nadia’s demand is close to impossible, because meeting the demand would mean creating a new crisis with Egyptian actor Yahia Al Fakharani, whose drama is being aired at the same time Nadia is suggesting.

Nadia has recently completed shooting the final scenes of “Mishwar Imra’a”, which involve her being in an accident that deforms her face. Nadia had left the scene of the accident till the end in order to focus all her attention on making the events lifelike. Nadia had spent several days with a makeup artist to try and make her face look as deformed as possible to show the effect of the accident.

Recently, Nadia had insisted on ignoring a demand of the Egyptian Censorship Committee to delete three scenes from “Mishwar Imra'a”, in which she appears wearing a bikini. The censorship stressed that such scenes are not fit for television and there is no way of allowing them to pass screening, especially since the drama is scheduled for release during the upcoming Muslim fasting month, Ramadan.

Director of the series Ahmad Saqr revealed that he agrees with the censorship and added that deleting the scenes will not affect the drama in any way. On her part, Nadia stressed that she will not delete the scenes, because they do not affect anyone, and she will take the responsibility of screening them.
