Syrian director Najdat Ismael Anzur is preparing to direct the operetta Unshudat Al Arab (Arab Canticle), composed by Saudi singer Mohammed Abdo, according to the Saudi daily Al Riyadh.
Abdo is expected to be joined by prominent Arab singers in performing the operetta, which will be presented during the inauguration of the Saudi National Festival of Cultural Heritage.
Anzur is due in London to meet the Saudi ambassador to the UK, Ghazi Al Qusaibi, the operetta writer, to discuss with him the operetta's vision.
Anzur left for London after his visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with Prince Mite’b bin Abdulla bin Abdel Aziz, the festival higher committee deputy chairman. The two discussed matters relating to the operetta performances during the festival's 17th anniversary this year.
On his visit to Riyadh, Anzur was accompanied by the English art show expert, Christopher George.
“George and I saw the main show hall in Jinadriyyah, where the ceremony will be held. We set the general framework for the performance based on the operetta script and hall conditions,” Anzur told the daily.
Last year, festival officials sought the help of French director John Pascal with the operetta Khaleej Al Khair (Gulf of Blessings). Pascal directed the inauguration ceremony of the World Cup in Paris in 1998 – Albawaba.com
